Bookfest Shropshire

Overview of the Project
The “Readers to Writers 2025” project is a Shropshire-wide initiative involving 17 primary schools, including Weston Lullingfields. It aims to inspire a love for reading and writing in children by giving them the unique opportunity to create their very own book. Since its inception in 2015, the programme has been successfully adopted by over 40 schools, with research from the University of Worcester endorsing its effectiveness in increasing children’s enthusiasm for writing.
Key Highlights
As part of the programme, children will work closely with a visiting author in January, gaining invaluable insight into the writing process. Each participant will also receive a book authored by their guest writer, further fuelling their creative journey. Guided by their teachers, the children will then write their own stories, which will be entered into a Shropshire-wide competition to showcase their talent.
Visiting Authors
Weston Lullingfields is delighted to welcome two distinguished authors: Eva Wong Nava and Justin Davies. Eva, an award-winning writer and advocate for diversity, brings a rich cultural tradition of storytelling to inspire students. Justin, celebrated for his humorous and engaging children’s books, will share his passion for creative writing and storytelling, leaving a lasting impact on young minds.
Competition Details
The children’s books will be submitted to a competition, with winners announced in May 2025. The most impressive entries, deemed “Books that Wow,” will be featured as digital flipbooks on the Shropshire Bookfest website. This recognition will provide a platform to celebrate the creativity and hard work of the young authors, inspiring pride and confidence in their writing abilities.
